Master Scene Shop Carpenter

Yale School of Drama /Yale Repertory Theatre (YSD/YRT) seeks a highly motivated and positive individual to join our staff as a long-term seasonal Master Scene Shop Carpenter. Responsibilities include executing scenic designs for theatre productions, while maintaining high standards of craftsmanship, efficiency and safety. This position reports to the YSD/YRT Technical Directors. Candidates must have professional and/or college-level experience as a scenic carpenter. Knowledge of scenic carpentry and metalworking, and scenic and rigging hardware and tools required. Preferred experience: Bachelor’s degree in theatre production. Minimum salary is $26.23/hr, plus Yale University benefits package. Opportunity to audit MFA level courses while expanding professional resume credits. Nine-month renewable position (August through May), 37.5 hours/week. Preferred start date August 12, 2019. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.

Yale Repertory Theatre works under the League of Regional Theatres (LORT) contract with Actors' Equity Association (AEA), the union of professional actors and stage managers. The union determines the number of Equity and non-Equity actors cast in each production.

Equity Principal Auditions (EPAs) are held every spring in New York and New Haven following the season announcement and are announced here, on this website, and distributed through the AEA Call Notice with a character breakdown for new plays.  EPAs for the 2019-2020 season were held in both New Haven and New York on May 2, 2019.

Play Submissions

Yale Rep

Yale Repertory Theatre accepts submissions of full-length plays, musicals, translations, and adaptations. All submissions are considered for productions at Yale Rep and for development opportunities with the Binger Center for New Theatre.

Playwrights must submit their work either through established agents or by first sending a letter of inquiry, accompanied by a brief synopsis, cast breakdown, a ten-page dialogue sample, and a résumé. The Literary Office will review these materials and contact playwrights regarding Yale Rep's interest in reading a full manuscript.

Submissions are accepted year-round. Unsolicited manuscripts will not be reviewed.

Yale Rep prefers electronic submissions. You may send files (as either .doc, .docx, or .pdf) to literary.office@yale.edu.
